The safety and welfare of participants, students, staff and instructors and those who help conduct activities is integral to the success of PSA as a leading youth development and behaviour modification organisation.
PSA enjoys a special relationship with the Australian Federal Police and other community organisations such as Calvary Hospital, Rotary International, Juvenile Justice and Department of Education.
Working with youth brings with it enhanced obligations because:
The youth who participate undertake adventurous activities in a bush setting.
The majority of the participants are adolescents who have special safety and workplace needs that create additional duty of care responsibilities.
The staff and instructors who lead and supervise participants are responsible and accountable for the safe conduct of PSA activities.
The PSA Risk Management Plan and Discipline & Welfare Policy provide the structure, principles and framework through which Eagles Rest Outdoor Education Centre ensures that:
Participants,
staff and instructors,
helpers and visitors,
are not exposed to unnecessary risk as a result of conducting PSA activities.
PSA is genuinely committed to:
Promoting good occupational health and safety practices,
Providing a safe environment for the conduct of outdoor activities, including safe equipment and proper materials,
Establishing and insisting upon safe methods and practices at all times,
Complying with all legislative requirements,
Providing resources required to promote a safe and supportive environment.
The PSA Safety goal is to achieve a reduction in the risk of accident and injury through improved:
safety awareness promotion,
occupational health and safety supervision, training and skills development,
incident and hazard reporting,
systems to review and maintain best practice safety standards, and
safety goals and measurable objectives
while promoting adventurous activities in the Australian bush bringing about self awareness and the development of self-esteem, integrity, respect, self-discipline, courage and acknowledgement of responsibilities to self, others and society.
